He Worshiped Him

And Jesus said to him, You have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you. Then he said, Lord, I believe! And he worshiped Him.
John 9:37-38
Why did Christ accept worship? Throughout Scripture, the pattern of accepting worship is quite consistent. Various messengers appear in the narratives. Sometimes they are humans, sent by God to deliver some message to another human. Other times they are angelic imparting some communication to an individual for a particular purpose. Typically, the person receiving the message begins to worship the messenger. Invariably the messengers stop the worshipper. They identify themselves as human or angelic and turn the worshipper to God, Who is the only One worthy of such devotion. In our text, the man whom Christ had healed of congenital blindness was responding to Christ’s revelation of Himself as the Son of God. He immediately begins to worship Him. Christ does not demure or equivocate. He accepts the man’s worship without protest or deflection. Thus, it becomes clear that Christ understood Who He is. He was not operating under any misapprehension. He understood His Own identity and behaved accordingly. All that follows is the account of how His identity and accomplishments have affected human history. We worship Him just as surely as did the man He healed. He is the Son of God.
Our Glorious, Living God,
we rejoice that You have manifested Yourself to us clearly.
We praise You, that like the blind man,
we had every reason to worship You.
