Moses And Elijah

And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah. While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!
Matthew 17:3-5
Christ and His message supersedes all others. When Peter, James and John were with Christ in the mountain, and He changed before their eyes into a glorious version of Himself, flanked by Moses and Elijah, the disciples were understandably impressed. Peter, ever the impulsive one, burst out with a plan, ‘Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.’ It was at this point that God the Father spoke from heaven saying, ‘This is My Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!’ Herein lies something worthy of our consideration. Moses was the lawgiver, and the chief representative of the law. Elijah was the quintessential prophet. As humans, it is very easy for us to become enamored with the Law and the Prophets, even so much as to proclaim our allegiance to the Bible and our adherence to the commands. God the Father points us to His Son. The Law is the schoolmaster to bring us to Christ. All the prophets gave witness to Christ. Christ preached of Himself from Moses and the prophets. We cannot claim to be Bible-based, if our preaching is Christless. He is God’s Beloved Son, and the Father’s exhortation is, ‘Hear Him!’
Our Wise and Holy God,
we rejoice that You have set Christ before us.
We praise You that Your Word, from beginning to end,
consistently points us to Him.
