Help Me

Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me; O LORD, make haste to help me! Let them be ashamed and brought to mutual confusion who seek to destroy my life; let them be driven backward and brought to dishonor who wish me evil. Let them be confounded because of their shame, who say to me, aha, aha!
Psalm 40:13-15
Christ is the Great Deliverer of His people. He is so, in the largest sense, in that He redeems us from sin, misery, and hell. He also delivers us in this scene of time from those who would swallow us up, and seek our destruction. David had numerous life experiences of this. Thus, because he was keenly aware of his enemies and their designs, he appealed to God to help him. He delivered his enemies over to the Lord to have Him deal with them. He was rather specific in describing them and their behavior toward him. He does not rely upon his own skill and ability to combat the evil they designed against him. Rather he appeals to the Lord to intervene against them. We may also have enemies who design evil against us. David looked to Christ to deal with his enemies. We look to Christ to deal with ours. The weapons of our warfare are not carnal. We cannot rely upon our own skill and ability to save us. Rather we look to Christ to intervene to the extent it serves His purpose and accomplishes His overarching providential plan. He may deliver us in different ways at different times for different purposes. Whatever He determines for us will be what is good and right. He will never leave us or forsake us.
Our Great and Gracious God,
we rejoice that You are our Helper in our times of deepest need.
We praise You that You will do us good,
now and forever.
