We Are All Witnesses

We Are All Witnesses

This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses.

Acts 2:32

All of Christ’s prophecies inevitably come to pass. When He ascended from the Mount of Olives, He left His disciples with this remark, ‘But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.’ On the day of Pentecost, in Jerusalem, what He had prophesied began to come true. The Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples. They were suddenly enabled to speak in foreign languages they had never studied and were able to communicate the gospel to foreigners who were gathered together for the feast. Peter stood up and began to preach Christ. He made bold statements about the fulfillment of ancient prophecy and the resurrection of Christ from the dead. Our text is part of that address. There, he affirms that God had raised up Jesus and goes on to say, ‘of which we are all witnesses.’ Thus, Peter plants the flag for all the witnesses of Christ to this day. We stand upon their testimony. They saw Christ alive from the dead. They lived their lives, spoke the truth, carried the gospel everywhere, and died their deaths testifying that Christ is risen from the dead. We are the inheritors of that message, ‘He is risen indeed.’

Our Great God and our Savior,
we rejoice that You have Your witnesses in every age.
We praise You that we have the privilege today,
to preach Christ.
