On The Throne Of His Glory

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, all authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
Matthew 28:18
When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory.
Matthew 25:31
When Christ says all authority is His in heaven and earth, what does He mean? The second portion of our text is one example of the nature and extent of His authority. Christ is describing His return and the last judgment. He speaks of Himself as sitting upon the throne of His glory. To the ancients, the throne was the place where authority resided. The King issued decrees from the throne. He rendered judgment from the throne. The throne was one of the chief symbols of his authority. Therefore when Christ says, ‘then He will sit upon the throne of His glory,’ He is declaring His authority to sit upon the throne and to render the judgment He describes in the rest of the passage. This touches all of us because we will all appear before the throne to receive the judgment He renders to each of us personally. What is important for us to consider in the light of the discussion of Christ’s authority is that it extends to this critical juncture where He renders judgment on the entirety of our life and its bearing upon our eternal future.
Lord of heaven and earth,
we rejoice that You render right judgment.
We praise You that You have purchased our redemption,
that we might appear before You with joy.
