Rule

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, all authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
Matthew 28:18
The LORD said to my Lord, sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool. The LORD shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion. Rule in the midst of Your enemies!
Psalm 110:1&2
Christ’s authority extends over His enemies. David possessed extensive evangelical knowledge. When he wrote Psalm 110, he spoke of Christ as his Lord. He draws a distinction between Christ and the Father by referring to the First as LORD, or Jehovah, and the second as, ‘my Lord,’ using a different word. Elsewhere he refers to the Holy Spirit, indicating his trinitarian understanding of the Godhead. He was also clear about Christ’s authority. In our text he speaks of the subduing of all Christ’s enemies. He goes on to say that Christ will rule in the midst of them. Thus the authority of Christ was a well-understood fact to the ancient believers. To them, there was no question about His rulership. Christ’s reiteration of this fact in Matthew only underscores what the ancients believed. We believe what they did. Christ does have all authority in heaven and earth. God is making His enemies His footstool. He is reigning. Ultimately every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
High King of heaven,
we rejoice that You are sitting upon Your throne.
We praise You that You are
extending Your rule over all.
