And my tongue shall speak of Your righteousness and of Your praise all the day long.

Psalm 35:28

We speak of many things. Each of us has our favorite themes. In the course of any given day we utter literally thousands of words, upon subjects wide and varied. We speak of sports, work, family, philosophy, events past, present, and future. For those of us who are saved by free and sovereign grace, there is one theme that towers above all others. It centers on the Person and Work of Christ. The psalmist who wrote our text for today sounds this note loudly and clearly; ‘My tongue shall speak of your righteousness.’ Here is a subject upon which we, as souls redeemed, can make constant comment. The righteousness of Christ is an intrinsic righteousness. He is righteous in and of Himself. Here is One whose intrinsic value is above and beyond comparison to all others. He has shown this righteousness in His perfect life, in His atoning death, and in His glorious exaltation. God has imputed the righteousness of Christ to us.  We are, in the eyes of God’s law, as righteous as Christ Himself, because God has imputed the righteousness of Christ to us. That is a worthy subject upon which we may make constant comment. More than that, the righteousness of Christ is an imparted righteousness. He is, by the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit conforming us into His Image. We shall have a sanctification which matches our justification. What a wonderful Savior! What a wonderful righteousness! What a wonderful theme for conversation!

Our Holy and Righteous Savior,
we are privileged today to
speak of Your Righteousness.
