Your Kingdom

Your Kingdom

Your Kingdom

Thy kingdom come.

Matthew 6:10

As Christ was teaching His disciples to pray, He arrives at the petition which serves as our text for today. He says that we are to pray, ‘Your Kingdom come.’ We want to stay a bit and meditate on these things. As we begin, let us consider, please, that the Kingdom which Christ encourages us to desire in prayer, is at once, the Kingdom of God, and also the Kingdom of Christ. The Scripture declares that ‘there is one God, and One Mediator between God and man, the Man Christ Jesus.’ This office of Mediator has three functions, that of Prophet, Priest, and King. Therefore, the Kingdom of God, is in fact the Kingdom of Christ. The Scripture supports this everywhere. When Isaiah had his glorious vision of Christ, in Isaiah 6, he saw Him as both God, and King. Matthew’s Gospel presents Christ as King. Pilate elicited from Christ the testimony that He is King, on the basis of the accusation of the enemies of Christ, who recognized that such a charge would serve their purpose. Upon the cross of Christ, there was the sign, in three languages, ‘The King of the Jews.’ When John saw Christ, as he wrote his Revelation, he saw Christ in glory, as King. Christ is not just a King, or even the King: He is King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. Moreover, He is Our King. Today, we solemnly swear our allegiance to King Jesus. We are the willing subjects of this King, and are the happy inhabitants of His Kingdom, which shall never end, Amen and Amen.

Our Gracious Master and our God,
You are the High King of Heaven, You rule over all.
Exercise Your Rulership in our hearts today.
