Christ’s Continuous Intercession

Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

Hebrews 7:25

Yesterday, we considered where Christ is. Today, we come to consider what He is doing in His Father’s Presence. The theme of this particular section of Hebrews is the High Priesthood of Christ, and His current activity. The writer of Hebrews traces the similarities of this Priesthood back to Melchizedek, the King of Righteousness and the King of Peace. The writer then declares in our text for today, ‘Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.’ Here is one of the functions of the High Priest, to intercede on behalf of the chosen people of God for them before the Face of God. This is what Christ is doing now. How did the High Priest come before the Face of God? He came ‘not without blood.’ So Christ, by His Presence before God the Father intercedes by holding up in Himself the Great Objective Plea of His Blood. This guarantees acceptance for all of those whom Christ represents. This is the best news we could have today. If we are to have a Representative before the Face of the Almighty God, Who better than Christ, the Only Begotten of the Father.  Who is more Sympathetic? Who is more Empathetic? If God accepts the Head then He will accept the Body. If He accepts the Bridegroom, then He will accept the Bride. Today, let us rejoice in the Christ, Who, ‘ever lives to make intercession for us.’ Let us fix our eyes on Him, Our Great High Priest, Who, by the Objective Plea of His Blood, succeeds at the Throne of Grace for us.

O, Living Christ, Our Great High Priest,
we praise You for Your never-failing Intercession.
We rejoice in our acceptance in the beloved,
And for all that You have won for us.
