‘Ever…With the Lord’
‘Ever…With the Lord’
Even to your old age, I am He, And even to gray hairs I will carry you! I have made, and I will bear; Even I will carry, and will deliver you.
…And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
Isaiah 46:4 & I Thessalonians 4:17b
We have spoken for the past few days, of Christ’s preservation of His people. That theme has brought home to us great comforts and glorious encouragements. There is one that yet we would set before you who read our little work. Christ, the Great I Am, Who made us, has promised to uphold us in every way throughout all the days of our life, until the day He brings us into His very Presence in His Heavenly Kingdom. From His Presence we shall never more depart. Our text for today puts it this way: ‘And so shall we ever be with the Lord.’ Here is where we find our final home. For us, who are Christ’s there is no real home apart from His Presence. We walk through this world as strangers and pilgrims. ‘We spend our years as a tale that is told.’ We take up our cross. We bear it and follow in the footsteps of Jesus, year after year, knowing that at the end of these few days we spend upon the earth we will lay it down, climb the golden stair, see Our Savior, Face to face, ‘and so shall we ever be with the Lord.’ It is unto this glorious conclusion that Christ preserves us. It is the Presence of Christ that makes heaven, Heaven; that makes glory, Glory; and that makes the Marriage Supper of the Lamb a feast indeed. ‘And so shall we ever be with the Lord.’
Our Glorious Saving God,
we rejoice that You will sweep us into Your very Presence.
We praise You that before us lies a glorious future
where ‘we shall ever be with the Lord.’
