Boldness And Access

Boldness And Access

In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.

Ephesians 3:12

Our being in Christ affords us access into the very presence of God.  As Paul continues to write his epistle to the Ephesians, he again sounds the note of what it means for us to be ‘in Christ.’  One of the things it means is that we have the high privilege of coming before the Throne of Heaven to address the God of Glory.  This is in stark contrast to what we deserve.  That we are, by nature, and by choice, strangers to God, argues against our having any access whatsoever.  What transforms the situation is the relationship which God has given us with Christ.  According to our text, in Christ ‘we have boldness and access with confidence.’  This is very encouraging.  This galvanizes us to pray with fervency and ardor.  This encourages us to approach the Throne of Grace every day, with the boldness of which our text speaks.  We come as much beloved children to an open-armed Father.  We come, not in the filthy rags of our own righteousness, but robed in the spotless righteousness of the Living Christ.  We come knowing that He ‘ever lives to make intercession for us’ and that the Holy Spirit also intercedes passionately on our behalf.  With these intercessors actively working for us, how can we do anything less than to make our way into the very Throne Room of God with boldness?  What Christ is to us, and has done for us, gives us confidence which we could never have under any other circumstance or condition.  Today, let us greatly rejoice in all that Christ is to us and in all that our being in Him affords us by way of ‘boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him.’

Our Glorious, Living God,
we rejoice that we have boldness and access
to enter into Your very presence.
We praise You that we come before You
by the power of Christ,
and on the basis of all that He has accomplished.
